Cursed Japanese Kleenex Commercial

The Cursed Kleenex Commercial involves a Kleenex commercial which aired in Japan in 1986. The commercial depicts a woman in a white dress with a child dressed as an baby Oni (a Japanese Ogre/Troll-like monster) sitting on straw while the song, "It's a Fine Day" by British musicians Edward Barton and Jane Lancaster, plays in the background. The unnerving nature of the ad and the complaints caused by it resulted in Kleenex pulling the ad. There are various claims of what happened to the actors involved as a result of the curse.

Despite the lyrics being in English, many believe the song to be a German curse that translated to "Die, die, everyone is cursed and will be killed." The child is rumored to have died as a result of the body paint used to dress him as an Oni while the actress is rumored to have died, suffered a mental breakdown and was confined to mental institution or gave birth to a demon baby. The curse was further fueled by a YouTube video by Shrouded Hand which alleged that the commercial would become distorted and creepy if it was watched at midnight (12:00AM)

Status of Legend[]

  • Status: False. While the actor who portrayed the Oni is not known, the woman dressed in white is a Japanese actress named Keiko Matsuzaka who is still alive and well, acting to this very day. The alleged video distortion was further debunked by Scare Theater and other Youtubers, where they recorded footage of themselves watching the video at midnight with nothing out of the ordinary happening.
